shoe tree

shoe tree, c. Scott Garner 2007

My brother Scott [info]memeselfi shot this shoe tree-- forty miles from anywhere, vaguely near the Oregon border.

Feel free to stop by his journal, add him, and paypal him some nomad money. He's scootering across the US. He has to post pix tho. I know he has others from this same shoot.

It looks spooky out there in the middle of desert.

I know where this is!!! It's close to where I grew up. There used to be a MUCH cooler shoe tree in the same area, it was a very pretty tree, in the middle of the high desert with no other trees, right next to the highway. Some a**hole - most likely in a drunken act - chopped the original down. It's somewhere between the Nevada/Oregon/California border, on the way from/to Reno Nevada from Eastern Oregon. (Kinda close to where they hold Burning Man.) I'm glad to see that the shoe thing still exists.

He rode today I think from Redmond to Ontario, OR (not far from Boise) if that helps locate it. If burners are driving by, that might explain the wealth of shoe tribute.

Ah yes!!!! You have a way~cool brother! There are a couple of shoe trees here in Indiana that I have yet to investigate. There is also the worlds largest sling shot about 17 miles from where I am. I wonder if I can sling some shoes that way...

I totally have to ask this--did Scott grow up in the Dallas area? If so, I totally know him and this is SO WEIRD.

Me too. I didn't touch what he sent me, other than to resize, and he isn't doing any processing on the images, on the road.

Is your bro a tattoo type guy? I'd give him a cost of supplies tattoo if he passes through. Something to mark the occasion of the trip type something perhaps? I'm totally jealous of his trip. I've wanted to travel cross country like that forever.

I think an icicle hanging off his ass might be quite appropriate, since he has been freezing his hinder parts nearly off between rain, general chill and wind!

He's the anti-hipster. He reads the news incessantly but then goes and these unmediated experiences with the world. I keep begging for photos, even knowing that the process of documenting what he spots can affect the looking... all the photos he has blogged are huge and unprocessed, keep clicking to get to the largest version so you can see what he was trying to shoot in the first place.
